Services

 Psychotherapy:

Dr. Beattie is a skilled psychotherapist, providing services to adult clients.  Specific therapeutic modalities are chosen based upon the issues presented and the preferences of the client(s).  Many clients presenting with depression or anxiety disorders may benefit from cognitive-behavioural and behavioural techniques, whereas those presenting with family-of-origin issues may prefer to work within psychodynamic or self-psychology frameworks.  Relaxation training as well as basic stress management skills may be taught to those suffering from chronic pain.  Frequency of sessions depends upon client needs.  She welcomes calls inquiring about her experience in different areas as well as discussion of potential therapeutic modalities to be utilized to address specific issues.  The current cost for services is $235.00 per clinical hour ($15.00 discount for payment at the time of service).

Psychotherapy may also be provided through telehealth (either telephone or video sessions) at the same rate. She is a certified telehealth provider.

Assessments:

Dr. Beattie provides assessment for emotional issues.  She has testified as an expert witness in family, personal injury and criminal matters.  Cost for assessments varies greatly due to the number of hours involved.  Charges are incurred for review of documents, clinical interviews, collateral interviews, observation sessions, psychometric testing, report preparation, feedback, and costs incurred.  Brief personality assessments may take as little as 2 to 3 hours, whereas more in depth assessments may take 12 to 15 hours.  The current charge for medical-legal work is $300.00 per hour.  At this time, medical-legal reports will only be provided for current clients.  Note that assessments for court or assessment for insurance eligibility may be subject to GST.  For a detailed cost estimate for an assessment, please contact Dr. Beattie.

Presentations and Workshops:

Dr. Beattie has presented on such varied topics as Parental Alienation, Coping with Chronic Illness, and Preparing for Retirement.  She has also offered Anger Management Workshops.  She has participated in media interviews on various topics and welcomes questions from the media on psychological issues.  Should you wish to discuss an idea or have a particular topic of interest, please contract Dr. Beattie.

Funding:

Many clients have access to funding to assist in payment for services. A number of employers provide extended medical plans or rehabilitative services which include coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychologist.  Insurance companies may also fund services when there has been an injury, and victims of crime may be able to access funding through the Crime Victims Assistance program.  Many of these organizations require pre-approval of services and some require a referral from a physician.  A co-payment may be required if the funding agency does not pay current service rates.  Services are not covered through the standard BC Medical Plan, but costs incurred are deductible as medical expenses for non-refundable tax credits.
